PhysioUpdate 14th September 2021
More than 200 journals aimed at healthcare professionals have urged world leaders to take urgent steps to tackle the ‘catastrophic harm’ associated with climate change.
In an unprecedented move, the journals, which include The BMJ, The Lancet, Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Journal and the British Journal of Sports Medicine, have all simultaneously published an editorial on the topic.
The theme of this year's World PT Day (held today, 8 September) is dedicated to promoting the role that physiotherapists can play internationally in treating and managing people affected by long Covid.
Respiratory physiotherapist Rachael Moses has been appointed as head of clinical leadership development at the NHS Leadership Academy.
In a series of recent tweets posted as @NHSLeader, she said: ‘The team are already committed to increasing our leadership reach, deepen inclusion & improve engagement across all clinical & non clinical roles.'
'Sparkle' promised
I hope to add a little extra sparkle to this in my role and bring in the networks I am already involved in as well as new ones [Rachael Moses]
‘I hope to add a little extra sparkle to this in my role and bring in the networks I am already involved in as well as new ones,' Ms Moses noted. Her posts drew a spate of congratulatory messages from physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals.
Ms Moses stressed that she will be carry on working as a consultant respiratory physiotherapist on a part-time basis in order to ‘ensure clinical leadership, patient voice & lived experience is embedded in everything I do’.
Ms Moses, who is also president elect at the British Thoracic Society, added that she will also continue her humanitarian work with Medical Aid for Palestinians.
‘For anyone that knows me equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging is so important to me so I am even more delighted to be joining @NHSLeadership during #PrideInTheNHS week.’

An OBE honour
Rachael Moses spoke exclusively to PhysioUpdate earlier this year after she received an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2021 in recognition of her contribution to the NHS. She told PhysioUpdate: 'It's overwhelming to think of myself as an OBE recipient, especially as I am surrounded by so many brilliant people.
'I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunities that I have had in my career and feel blessed that people took the time to nominate me.'
