Better Patient Care Through Quantified Data

The Activforce team finds fulfillment in knowing that we are able to support physiotherapists with getting patients back to doing what they love most. Many physiotherapists using Activforce have seen increased patient retention, reduced reinjury, and faster progress in getting back to full health. Part of what makes Activforce so helpful is the data patients can see. One story comes from Salt Lake City, Utah. This particular patient, let’s call him John Smith for privacy reasons, was experiencing lower back pain after running. John was no longer able to enjoy his runs like he used to because they would result in burning pain, especially the lower right side. Experiencing pain for over a year, he visited a chiropractor, another physical therapy clinic, and a physician. After Dr. Daniel Stewart performed strength tests with Activforce, they were able to isolate and properly address the problem.

Dr. Stewart discovered that John Smith’s hip abduction had a 50% difference in symmetry, 28 kg on the right and 14 kg on the left. Also, there was a 24% difference for hip adduction, 16% difference with hip flexion, and 22.7% difference with external rotation. John was able to see the results of his tests as they were performed. Dr. Stewart prescribed home exercises to work towards John’s symmetry.

After his sixth visit in just over a month, John Smith returned to his runs with no pain. John could see the quantified data related to his pain and injury. As a result, he could better collaborate with his physiotherapist on the best course of action to get back to 100% health. It is stories like these that remind our Activforce team why we do what we do.
