Ambitious physiotherapists working in orthopaedics have a chance to follow in the footsteps of Christine Douglas, who picked up an award at the inaugural National Orthopaedic Alliance’s (NOA) Excellence in Orthopaedics Awards last year.

Christine, a physiotherapist who is based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in north west London, pipped two other shortlisted candidates to win the ‘Digital Innovation in Orthopaedics’ award in Birmingham in October 2022.

Entries for the 2023 awards are welcome until midnight on 30 April, with the finalists scheduled to be announced in early July. The winners will receive their awards at a ceremony due to be held at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre on 19 October, after the NOA annual members’ conference has ended.

The awards recognise NOA member organisations, projects and teams that have distinguished themselves through exemplary contributions, influence, and commitment to transforming services in the orthopaedics field.

This year’s categories are as follows

  • partnerships and integration initiative
  • working towards net zero
  • innovation in orthopaedics
  • supporting patients on their pathway (new for 2023)
  • workforce retention initiative (new for 2023)
  • workforce recruitment campaign (new for 2023)
  • equity, diversity, inclusion (new for 2023)

Sponsored by myrecovery.ai

Meanwhile, the NOA has announced that myrecovery.ai is to sponsor the event. Part of Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company – which describes itself as ‘the largest provider of musculoskeletal value-based care’ – the myrecovery.ai digital platform includes the myrecovery patient app and web portal. These support patients through treatment pathways and offer a provider care navigation dashboard, enabling remote care, data-driven decision making and optimisation along the pathways.

Stuart Hubbard, myrecovery’s managing director, said: ‘We are proud to be sponsoring the workforce retention initiative category and can’t wait to present the trophy to the winning team later this year.’

Ann Hoey, the NOA’s programme director, said: ‘The NOA Excellence in Orthopaedics Awards would not be possible without sponsors like myrecovery. She added: ‘We are thrilled to have them support these awards for a second year and look forward to continued partnership with the myrecovery team.’
