A panel member of a fitness to practise (FTP) conduct and competence committee that was considering complaints concerning the behaviour of physiotherapist Adam Meakins has recused themselves (withdrawn their involvement), with the result that a new panel will have be set up in due course.

In response to a PhysioUpdate query, a spokesperson for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) said yesterday (25 July): ‘We can confirm that, in this case, one of the panel members has recused themselves. The allegations will be referred to a new panel and the hearing will be heard anew.

‘A new date has not yet been set for this hearing. As soon as this is confirmed, it will be posted on the HCPTS [Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service] website.'

The HCPC spokesperson added: ‘Once a hearing has concluded, the decision will normally be posted on our website within two working days.'

The final hearing process, which is held in private, involving Mr Meakins had begun at the HCPC's headquarters in south London on 10 July and had been scheduled to finish on 25 July.
