How to Objectively Measure Patients Muscle Strength

Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) is subjective and known to be an inaccurate method to measure muscle strength. The MMT Scale is not something patients fully understand and is often debated amongst physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals. Dynamometers are a better solution for measuring strength since they provide objective patient information, but most of them are too expensive for a physiotherapist.

Activforce 2 is the solution. The Activforce 2 handheld dynamometer and inclinometer takes the guesswork out of force and angle measurement by utilising advanced technology to collect and track real time, objective data. As a result of regular use, engagement increases in a prescribed plan of care producing better client outcomes at an affordable price.

Activforce 2 measurements have been proven to be reliable by third parties which has given confidence to physiotherapists worldwide to trust Activforce 2 to give them accurate muscle strength and range of motion data in order to tailor individualised treatment and track patient progress over time. A recent study shows data generated by the Activforce 2 dynamometer improves compliance, and decreases cancellation rates, motivating clients to become more engaged in their treatment program. Some of the benefits from Activforce 2 include the following:

  •      Measure strength and range of motion in one easy-to-use affordable kit.
  •      Share health data using understandable, objective, quantified data with your patients.
  •      Inform your clinical decisions using objective data.
  •      Utilise repeatable testing to accurately track your patients’ progress over time.
