Spotlight on Exxentric's kPulley2 System

Exxentric are developing innovative, science-based training equipment and methods for strength and conditioning based on flywheel training – the kBox, kPulley & LegExx– used by performance coaches, personal trainers and physiotherapists worldwide.

The kPulley2 is the second-generation flywheel pulley system crafted by the team at Exxentric. Designed to combine rotational and pull exercises with push and lower limb exercises which can be used for a variety of physiotherapy needs. The standard inertia capacity of the kPulley2 goes from 0.005 kgm² up to 0.140 kgm² or two Extra Large Flywheels.

Exxentric kPulley2 System

Exxentric’s flywheel technology allows for variable resistance giving the patient control over the force output. This gives a safer and less risk prone therapy. This also produces a variable leer which can be adjusted to limit the depth of movement which allows you to prevent a patient working beyond certain angles.

The device comprises of a kPulley2 Base which holds the system and a kPulley2 Beam which attaches the system to the wall. The Base works from a height of 40cm to 225cm giving a wide range of horizontal movement options. Alongside the structure, the Standard Starter System includes one Flywheel out of a range of 4 size options however we would recommend the Advanced System which allows you to choose three Flywheels and comes with a range of attachments for a wider variety of movements.

A key feature is the built-in kMeter II feedback system which gives real time feedback from the flywheel to an easy-to-use smartphone, Exxentric, app available on the App Store and Google Play. Measuring up the scientific inspection, the app gives accurate monitoring of force and power which is useful to both you and your clients within a physiotherapy context. This allows both in the moment measurement but also along for the long-term collection of progress data. The data recorded includes concentric and eccentric power, eccentric overload, force, energy, and range of motion. the kMeter is able to sample up to 155 revolutions per second, receiving 64 impulses per revolution of the Flywheel with a sample rate of 10,000 Hz. With unlimited connections to mobile devices, this allows individuals and physios to keep track of their movements.

Applications of the kPulley2 include:

  • post-operative rehabilitation
  • rehabilitation of tendinopathies
  • prevention of recurrent injuries, or prehab
  • treatment of patellofemoral knee pain syndrome
  • adapted training during periods of injury
